Samsung places great emphasis on the creation and protection of Intellectual Property. In 2010 Samsung was awarded 4,551 patents by the US Trademark and Patent Office and ranked second on the world’s most inventive companies list. SISO has its own Intellectual Property (IP) group. The team contributes to Samsung’s IP by protecting inventions and getting involved in end to end process from idea generation to licensing of our IP assets. This group, together with other stakeholders, evaluates an idea to determine its inventiveness and then processes the idea to protect it if it is found to be appropriate within Samsung’s current patent strategy.
The IP group continuously strives towards providing a better environment at SISO for stimulating innovative mindset.
At SISO we believe in filing patents judiciously to ensure that the results of the extensive research in cutting edge technologies and standards that are carried out in Samsung are protected. SISO started filing patents in 2003 and till date we have filed more than 600 patent applications with the Indian Patent Office. A good percentage of these are also filed outside India depending on their relevance in a particular market. SISO now has more than 100 granted patents in India.
